I’ve had numerous athletes asking me lately about the amount of calories “burned” per hour while cycling outdoors.  Often times an exercise physiologist’s initial response is “it depends”.  Therefore, depending (primarily) upon the intensity of your outdoor riding session, as well as your metabolism – or metabolic (burn) rates, fitness level, recovery level, and conditions (i.e. terrain, wind, temperature, altitude…), most will burn between ~100 – 300 calories every 15 minutes.  In other words, 400-1,200 kcal/hr.  I know that is a wide range; however, remember all of the variables that factor into the equation.   For other questions such as monitoring devices or during ride caloric replenishment guidelines, contact me at https://toddparkertrainingprograms.com/ .
